BITMOVIN : video solution company review

Bimovin : Video Infrastructure for the Web

1. First contact with Bitmovin !

On 3rd of August 2015, I got an email from the Bitmovin-video Mr. A*** W***; He asked me if I can test their solution.

This is a screenshot from my email box, I can forward it to your support team.

After received this email, I replied with some questions on their video/cloud solution, but no response from his side.

In those last few days, I returned to this topic because I'm interested in sharing my experience with a companies working on video solution, which I already communicate or tried their compression video as online services, so I start with company, since I received a request from them in order to give my test result over their cloud solution.

So, I  sent an email to their support team !!!, BUT on sales@bitmovin.com, because I can't find any contact form or info email address on https://bitmovin.com/contact/.
The only solution, to contact their support team, or at least get the right email address, is when I log in to my account, created in 2015 when I tried to test this video compression cloud solution.

So, I forwarded my email to support@bitmovin, in order to specify my inquiry and getting in touch with the right team, asap.

2. Let's try Bitmovin solutions

Before starting this review, you may be asked what is video compression technologies? and for any reason, it's provided?
As a lot of research paper and IT industry companies talked that in those coming years, "Internet video streaming and downloads are beginning to take a larger share of bandwidth and will grow to more than 80 percent of all consumer Internet traffic by 2020", so companies and big firms, start to invest in compression technology for video, in order to decrease storage costs.
some interesting worldwide event, are organised every year, where you can meet a lot of expert and companies, working in this field; CES  and IBC  are some of the biggest professionals meetings.
The video compression technology is so important, that's why big firms, involved in a buy rate of successful others companies which have an interesting and top benefit solution, for example during 2015:
Google doesn't provide any support for his internal video encoding solution, even when you find that tow popular encoding companies, which use Google cloud platforms to run their services, those are Zencoder and Bitmovin.

So, in simple words, Bitmovin is a company which provide an online video encoding solution, of course with some accessories, such as HTML5 Adaptive Player, or live stream
If you looking to capture your audience with the Highest Quality Video, you can benefit from Bitmovin solutions.

Now, let's enter into this world, and try this solution.
You must create an account, then you will have the ability to try most of the video encoding services.

1. on the main window, you can start encoding video, by importing, for example, mkv file from your dropbox, and launch the process.

    2. Next, choose "Encoding", then select this mkv file.

   3. On the next page, you will see that Bitmovin encoder, detect your file video properties:

   On this example:

    Input Video-Streams:
Codec: hevc FPS: 24.00 Resolution: 1280x720

and we can specify, output video encoding, by selecting "FullHD-1080p Adaptive Bitrate", " HD-720p Adaptive        Bitrate" or "SD-480p Adaptive Bitrate".
Same thing for, video encoding qualities : Resolution, Bitrate, profile, quality, Codec

  3. Now, you can choose which platforms you want to support

4. Weh the encoding is finished, and email will be sent to you, as a notification, and on the dashboard, you can play the output video, download, show details, or even transfer to your storage cloud.

3. What Next ?

On the next blog, I will continue this review, in order to test most Bitmovin functionalities, and especially waiting for they support team to answer, regarding my email :)

Hello my friend, I hope you doing well,

If you search for resources for your project based on ZYNQ technology from Xilinx, and through my experience I recommend the first and the best expert in embedded field, Mr. Adam Taylor, he's the chief of engineer at e2v, and one of the best blogger who begin publish chronicles on  Xcell Daily Blog.

when I started my engineer internship, I find Adam blogs are so interesting for my cases, also when I need some particles results for my students, i always focused on those chronicles, because its give you the only and the fundamental information of a particular side of ZYNQ, but also when i need an expert views of this technology, to provide a professional consulting to my client, which is start-up and some time big companies :)

You can access to this treasure for free via the Adam website www.adiuvoengineering.com

PCB design of Microzed is needed, just for 150 $ !!!

Publishing your PCB Design for free, sometime isn't a good marketing strategy !

By coincidence, when I was on Upwork, the famous and the leader website, for freelance work online, and when I'm searching for project with Zedboard, ZYNQ tags, I found this job, published just one day ago.

The job proposed by someone, maybe company in South of Korea (he spent more than 7000$ on upwork ), talked about creation of a PCB design similar to Microzed Board, and through the description, the source of the original design can be founded on  this page.

The budget of this project is only 150 $, for copy past work, just the proposer of this job, need the final result like this " I want it to be identical but 2-layer.

Running a Linux distribution ( Xillinux ) on ZedBoard

Introduction :

This lab consists of an implementation (or port) of an operating system called Xillinux, based on the distribution Ubuntu 12.04, intended for ZYNQ architecture (2 ARM processor and FPGA part).
Currently, there are two versions of this system, Xillinux 1.1 and  Xillinux 1.3
In this lab, we are interested in version Xillinux 1.1

To achieve our goal, we invite you to take the following steps:

1. Visit this page, and then download both resources, as shown in the following figure.

2. Unzip the archive: xillinux-eval-zedboard-1.2.zip

In the "system" folder, double-click the file « system.xmp »,it will be opened with the software: Xilinx Platform Studio (XPS).

3. After opening the software, choose the tab «  ZYNQ », then in the block I/O Peripherals block Zynq PS GPIO Peripheral (the last entry ) in EMIO GPIO (Width) ;  choose the value 56.

4. Choose the option «  Generate Netlist »

At the end of this stage, a message will be displayed on the software console, indicating the success of this stage.
ِClose  XPS software.

5. Double click the folder "runonce", ISE software will launch.

Click on the project entitled "runonce.xise"

For each application "fifo_32x512", "fifo_8x2048" and "vga_fifo"; action "regerate core"

Example: select "fifo_32x512" and double click "Regenerate core"

5. Now, we need to generate the file named "Bitstream"

choose (your choice), verilog or VHDL file, then double click on the project "xillydemo.xise"

We will choose the verilog folder.

Choose the option" Generate Programming File "

At the end of this stage, a file will be created, appointed " xillydemo.bit "
Just copy it to the directory " boot "

6. Finally, to generate the boot.bin file, just click on the file "makeboot.bat"
The boot.bin file is the file that provides the startup of the operating system  Xillinux 1.1, care from memory (SD card), the Zedboard development board.

7. Now just prepare the memory card.
Download this Software USB image tool
Insert the memory card in the dedicated slot on your laptop or external drive. ( if you are using Linux OS, you can use Gparted

In the sidebar, click right on the card in, then choose "format"

Create two partition, the first under the FAT size of 16 MB file format and a second format Ext4 partition (the remaining memory space).

Use the USB Image tool software (after extracting the archive), select "USB Image Tool.exe"

Click on "Restore" and then select the image system

  · Select the location of the xilinx-1.1.img.gz image and confirm.

· Finally, copy the files located under the directory to the Boot partition (FAT  16 MB) in the memory card.

8. Prepare Zedboard card (see the figure below)

9. Link the keyboard and mouse to the USB OTG port, insert the memory card in the dedicated slot.

To start the graphical version of Xillinux operating system, just type startx
